Tandin Gyeltshen, a seasoned tour guide (of Yangphel Adventure Travel) hailing from the culturally rich Nobgang village in Punakha, Bhutan, has dedicated over two decades to sharing the wonders of his homeland with global travelers. A graduate of North Point College in Darjeeling, India, where he studied commerce, Tandin’s true calling emerged in 1998 when he earned his tour guide license from Bhutan’s Department of Tourism, driven by a passion to serve as a cultural ambassador for the Land of Happiness.
Renowned as a walking encyclopedia of Bhutanese heritage, Tandin seamlessly weaves insights into Buddhism, ancient folklore, and local traditions into his tours. With unparalleled expertise, he has traversed nearly every trekking route and cultural site in Bhutan, from the soaring Himalayan trails to hidden valley monasteries. An avid birder, he enriches journeys with knowledge of Bhutan’s avian biodiversity, appealing to nature enthusiasts and cultural explorers alike.
Fluent in five languages, including Japanese, Tandin bridges cultural gaps and fosters meaningful connections with diverse travelers. His collaborative spirit shone through his instrumental role in assisting author John Berthold in crafting the acclaimed guidebook The Land of the Thunder Dragon, solidifying his reputation as a trusted authority on Bhutan’s history and landscapes.
When not guiding, Tandin channels his energy into sports, excelling in football, basketball, table tennis, and archery—Bhutan’s national sport. His dynamic personality and deep-rooted commitment to preserving Bhutan’s legacy ensure that every journey he leads is not just informative, but an unforgettable immersion into the heart of the Himalayas.
For Tandin, guiding is more than a profession—it’s a lifelong mission to celebrate Bhutan’s magic, one traveler at a time.
