Pristine Bhutan

At Yangphel Adventure Travel, sustainability and responsible tourism guide everything we do. We strive to minimize our environmental footprint, support local communities, and ensure that tourism in Bhutan remains ethical, immersive, and culturally enriching.

Lakhu Camp, Punakha
We operate Lakhu Camp, an eco-tourism destination in Punakha, where the local community, including youth, is actively employed, ensuring direct benefits to the region. The camp is designed to promote sustainable travel while preserving the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the area.

Monpa Day & Jangbi Community Engagement
In collaboration with Barbara Savage from Tribal Trust and the Bhutanese government, we helped establish Monpa Day, celebrating the Monpa indigenous community. This initiative fosters cultural preservation and community participation, enhancing the experience for our travelers visiting Jangbi while ensuring that tourism directly benefits the Monpa people.

Supporting Local Livelihoods
Our commitment to regenerative tourism ensures that travel benefits those who sustain Bhutan’s landscapes and culture. From employing youth at Lakhu Camp to working with horse contractors and local communities in Jangbi, we actively create opportunities that strengthen local economies and preserve traditions.

Happiness Trek, Trongsa
A community-based trekking program, the Happiness Trek is led by Yangphel’s President, Karma Lotey, who welcomes guests into his village to experience authentic Bhutanese hospitality. This trek is designed to connect travelers with Bhutanese rural life, offering a genuine and immersive experience while directly benefiting the local community.

Guided by GNH Principles
Our business is rooted in Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness (GNH) philosophy, ensuring that tourism positively contributes to the well-being of people, culture, and the environment.

Reducing Plastic Waste
We actively work to reduce the use of plastic bottles on our trips by promoting reusable alternatives.

Responsible Trekking
Our team follows a strict Leave No Trace policy, ensuring that all plastic waste is collected and brought back for proper disposal after treks.

Cleanup Campaigns
We have led and participated in conservation efforts, such as the Jomolhari Trek Cleaning Campaign, removing waste from Bhutan’s remote trails.

Cultural Respect & Ethical Travel
Our guides are ambassadors of Bhutanese heritage, helping travelers engage with local communities in a respectful and responsible manner while sharing Bhutan’s deep-rooted traditions.

Highly Trained Guides
All our guides are National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) trained, ensuring that every journey is conducted with environmental consciousness, cultural sensitivity, and safety at the forefront.

Investing in Education
Through the Yangphel Scholars Program, we sponsor scholarships for Bhutanese students, supporting the next generation in achieving their academic goals.

Safety & Well-being
We prioritize guest and staff safety and ethical work practices, ensuring all expeditions meet international standards while respecting Bhutan’s natural and cultural environment.

Employee-Driven Culture
Our team members are at the forefront of our philosophy, shaping our sustainability efforts and leading by example.
